Who Are We?
The Society of the Episcopal Church for the Advancement of Christianity in Pennsylvania is an organization that supports parishes in the commonwealth by providing financial grants for ministry projects.
Founded in 1812 by Bishop William White, the Society (sometimes abbreviated “The Advancement Society”) encourages innovation in Episcopal churches and faith communities and seeks to support new endeavors. The Society is made up of both laypeople and clergy; it meets three times each year to consider grant applications, in January, May, and October.
The Society has three funds from which it disburses funds. The General Fund supplies monies for work anywhere in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Tobias Wagner Legacy Fund offers funds to be used only in the Diocese of Pennsylvania. And the Morris Fund provides money for physical repairs.
If you are interested in applying for a grant from the Society, please read through the application requirements and complete an application. The application should be submitted to your bishop or diocesan leadership, who is required to write a letter of endorsement supporting your application. If you have any questions, please email Karin King, the secretary and treasurer of the Society.
